This Benelux practical guideline is the updated version of “Powder and Liquid Coatings on Zinc.” MaintenanceNL, ION Association, VOM Zinkinfo Benelux, together with its members, collaborated closely on this publication, ensuring that this document has industry-wide support.
Purpose of this publication
The purpose of this practical guideline is twofold: First, we aim to inform all stakeholders in the construction industry about the options available for powder and liquid coatings on galvanized substrates. This practical guideline outlines the factors they should consider during design, system selection, and contract awarding. Stakeholders in the construction industry include all those involved in the design, actual construction, maintenance, and renovation of steel structures (clients, architects, engineering firms, consulting firms, inspection agencies, project developers, end users, etc.).Furthermore, surface treatment providers who apply these requirements adhere to the procedures and assessment criteria described in this document. This document clarifies expectations for all parties regarding the quality of the delivered product and consolidates all the necessary knowledge to deliver a sustainable, high-quality end product.
This document is published by Infosteel, in collaboration with VOM ( Belgian Association for Surface Treatment Technologies) and Zinkinfo-Benelux.
This guide, in the form of a practical brochure, describes solutions for protecting steel structures from corrosion, whether they are located inside buildings or exposed to the elements.
The purpose of this guide is to provide guidance to all stakeholders in the construction industry (clients, architects, engineering firms, etc.) involved in the design, construction, maintenance, and renovation of steel structures. A number of solutions for corrosion protection are recommended, primarily based on the corrosivity class (C1 to C5).The corrosion protection systems described in this document are based on reference standards or practical guidelines. This guide contains a non-exhaustive list of existing corrosion protection systems. Only the most common and most suitable solutions are proposed. It is possible that other acceptable solutions exist for a specific project that are not described here.
This document is published by VMRG, in collaboration with ION and Zinkinfo-Benelux.
Regular maintenance and cleaning of coated metal parts are essential to maintaining their intended service life. It is important that end users are familiar with the proper maintenance methods. Proper and frequent cleaning ensures that:
• The appearance is preserved
• The coating’s properties remain optimal
• Defects are detected quickly
After cleaning, there are various methods to further extend the service life of coated metal parts. For organic coatings (such as powder coatings), this can be done by applying a protective wax layer.
Any defects observed should be repaired as soon as possible to prevent them from worsening, such as corrosion.
