Rules for the Zinkinfo Galvanizing Awards 2027

1. OBJECTIVES

This competition, which was first held in 1997 under the name Benelux Trophy for Hot-Dip Galvanizing (BTTV), has the following objective:

  • Use inspiring examples to demonstrate that batch hot-dip galvanizing is the best protection against corrosion.
  • To highlight creative and innovative applications of hot-dip galvanized steel.
  • Emphasize the importance of effective communication and collaboration among the various parties involved in a project. Only in this way can the result meet the client’s expectations.
  • To inform architects, designers, clients, steel fabricators, engineering firms, and structural engineers about recent high-quality projects using galvanized steel.
  • Generate the necessary attention among as broad a target audience as possible through the publication of a book and a social media campaign.

2. PARTICIPATION

  • Any project constructed entirely or partially of hot-dip galvanized steel (with or without a duplex system).
  • The project must be fully or nearly fully completed by 2025–2026.
  • The project may be located outside the Benelux as long as the applicant is a Belgian, Dutch, or Luxembourg national.
  • A single entrant may submit multiple projects.
  • The coordinator of a submitted project is responsible for the accuracy of the information provided and informs the other parties involved about participation in the Zinkinfo Galvanizing Awards 2027.

3. CATEGORIES

  • Buildings (hot-dip galvanized only)
  • Infrastructure, Mobility & Public Spaces (hot-dip galvanized only)
  • Distinctive steel components (hot-dip galvanized only)
  • Duplex (hot-dip galvanizing + coating)
  • Circular Construction: The steel structure—and, by extension, the entire project—was designed with circularity in mind. All steel components are designed to be disassembled and reused in a future project.

The entrant must specify the category in which they are submitting their project. If the nature or characteristics of a project so require, the organization reserves the right to reclassify a project into a different category. A project may be submitted in the circular construction category and in another category at the same time.

4. REGISTRATION

  • The application form must be returned by December 15, 2026. The complete application package must be received by January 15, 2027.
  • The applicant guarantees the accuracy of the information provided on the registration form and of the submitted materials. The applicant is responsible for any costs arising from incorrect information on their documents.
  • He informs the other parties involved about the project’s participation in the competition.
  • An entry may be rejected if the application form or the submitted material does not comply with the rules or is not sufficiently relevant to the objectives of the Zinkinfo Galvanizing Awards. In that case, the entrant will be notified.
  • The submitted material (texts, drawings, and photos) may be used free of charge by Zinkinfo (in print or electronic form) as part of a promotional campaign for hot-dip galvanizing, specifically on the Zinkinfo website, in the magazine dedicated to the contest, and on Zinkinfo’s social media channels.
  • The entrant expressly warrants that the submitted material does not infringe upon the copyright or any other rights of third parties, does not violate any laws, and does not contain any subject matter to which a third party could assert rights, and warrants that it has obtained the necessary permissions for the use of the submitted material in any form by Zinkinfo as part of its promotional campaigns for hot-dip galvanizing, including inclusion in an online database and display on the Internet.

5. JURY

The jury selects the nominees and winners and awards the prizes. The jury’s deliberations are confidential, and its sovereign decisions are final.

When selecting jury members, the goal is to achieve a good balance, both geographically and in terms of expertise (architect, structural engineer, client, steel fabricator, etc.).

The jury chair is appointed by Zinkinfo and may not be involved in any of the submitted projects.

In its evaluation, the jury takes the following criteria into account:

  • The concept: creativity, innovation.
  • The context: integration into the surroundings and architectural context, aesthetic quality
  • Optimization of the structure and the execution of the details.
  • The extent to which the bidder justifies the use of hot-dip galvanizing ( durability, service life, ease of maintenance, etc.)

6. AWARDS CEREMONY AND MEDIA CAMPAIGN

The winners:

  • receive the award
  • are the focus of a national and international press campaign in specialized trade publications and on social media, so that their work is brought to the attention of a wide audience.

All participating projects:

  • are given the necessary attention on the Zinkinfo website
  • are eligible for a project visit or other forms of promotion by Zinkinfo
  • will be covered extensively in the media through a social media campaign by Zinkinfo
  • will be featured in the book about the Zinkinfo Galvanizing Awards, which will be printed in a run of 1,500 copies and distributed throughout the Benelux.
