For the storage and transshipment of wood pellets destined for the Rodenhuize 4 power plant, a shed was constructed about 655 meters long with a span of about 50 meters.

The building is divided into four autonomous compartments that can continue to function independently in the event of a fire; a safety zone with water curtain is provided between these zones, which allowed the shed to be built without internal fireproof partitions – a major advantage in bulk storage. The roof features a large cantilever (overhang) around the dump opening in the roof to provide protection from weathering during the dumping process.

Steel construction & structural choice for galvanizing

The shed was built with a steel structure that was hot-dip galvanized. This choice was driven by the desire to minimize maintenance costs and maximize the building’s durability – in an industrial, corrosive environment, galvanized steel is the wise choice.

  • Corrosion resistance: bulk shed with fire risk and lots of dust requires steel protection that does not require frequent maintenance.
  • Economic and sustainable: Hot-dip galvanizing ensures a long service life with minimal maintenance costs – essential for premises in industrial logistics.
  • Prefabricated and assembly-friendly: Many steel components could be prefabricated, galvanized and then assembled, reducing construction time and assembly complexity.
