The P+R Elst, located along the railroad line between Nijmegen and Arnhem, was put on the market by NS Stations via a Design, Build & Maintain tender. The contract was awarded on the basis of the best overall package: design quality, price, planning and management and maintenance costs for a ten-year period.

The parking garage accommodates 590 cars and is designed to make parking as easy as possible for users. Thanks to the slender steel structure, large spans with IPE girders, one-way traffic and sloping parking bays, motorists do not experience any hindrance from crossing traffic flows or interfering columns. The complete design-main supporting structure, floors and facades-is fully detailed in 3D and BIM.

The structure consists of slender box columns, IPE girders and steel plate concrete floors. S355 grade steel was chosen for this purpose. The parking garage is modular and prepared for a future additional floor.

Durable appearance due to hot-dip galvanized steel

A key design choice is the use of hot-dip galvanized steel for the entire main supporting structure. This material not only provides a clean, crisp appearance-reinforced by the light color of the underside of the steel plate concrete floor-but, more importantly, offers great advantages for durability and maintenance.

Hot-dip galvanizing makes the steel structure completely maintenance-free during the planned operating period and beyond. This significantly reduces management and maintenance costs. In addition, the material contributes to a long service life, robust corrosion resistance and a lasting high-quality appearance of the garage interior.
