A residential concept with character
LOFTHOME Brouwer in Almere is a textbook example of how design, technology and manufacturing process can seamlessly intertwine. The concept starts from the archetype of a rural barn, but translates it into the spaciousness and robustness of an industrial loft.
The house is supported by a self-supporting steel skeleton constructed of hot-rolled IPE profiles. Thanks to this sturdy but slender portal construction, facades and interior walls remain light and freely divisible. As a result, the house can be easily adapted at any stage of life. Moreover, the steel portals remain visible in the interior, reinforcing the powerful, industrial LOFTHOME character.
LOFTHOME is built completely demountable: almost all parts can later be removed, modified or even reused as a whole. The design thus fits perfectly with circular and future-oriented construction.
Why hot-dip galvanized steel?
At LOFTHOME Brouwer, a fully hot-dip galvanized steel structure was chosen. This choice is a hit both technically and aesthetically.
Hot-dip galvanizing provides the steel with a wear-resistant zinc coating that provides decades of corrosion protection. As a result, the house requires virtually no maintenance, even in humid or changeable climates.
The galvanized finish gives the interior a tough, industrial look that fits perfectly with the LOFTHOME concept. The exposed steel tells the story of the structure: honest, raw and unadorned.
Zinc is fully recyclable and attaches metallurgically to steel. As a result, the material retains its value even after disassembly. An ideal choice for a home built to last and to be reused.
