CASE STUDY CIRCULAR GALVANIZED STEEL
The Les Glòries neighborhood in the eastern part of Barcelona is one of the most important urban renewal projects. During the redevelopment of the area, the city of Barcelona wanted an information zone for local residents that could at the same time serve as an information point for tourists.
A closed competition, won by local architects Peris + Toral, assumed a temporary structure that could be transferred to another site after its planned 4-year function as an information point.
After close examination of the intended materials, a construction using galvanized steel tubes for the outer frame, combined with a translucent polycarbonate skin and prefabricated wooden inner modules was chosen. These modules serve as an information desk and bicycle rental point. All this was realized within a
budget of €170,000.
After serving as an information point since 2015, Peris + Toral was recently commissioned by the City of Barcelona to repurpose the structure as a youth center (casal de joves in Catalan) in the St
Martí neighborhood.
